Porn…

No, I’m not going to be giving you a list of sites.

This post is a direct reaction to this article and of course, the comments on said article.

Porn has been part of our existence since time began. Before there were moving pictures, they found ways of making sex movies using tricky machinery or just pages in a book. Victorian erotica is still read to this day. You can even get pictures from those days. Playboy started in what, the 50’s?

As long as there have been people, they have wanted to see other people naked. Granted, mostly men wanting to see boobs, but that’s neither here nor there.

Porn is part of our lives. It’s not going to go away any time soon. And, I have to agree with Dr Eve from the article that porn, per se, does not have much to do with violence against women and children.

Only thing porn does promote is pre-marital sex, but then again. As George Burns said – it’s not pre-marital sex if you have no intention of getting married…

Does the easy availability of porn drive all men to rape? Do all watchers get addicted to it? I don’t think so. Unless of course you watch the violent porn – that’s always there. Or the mostly off ones. But even that will not make most people go out and rape a woman or a man. it speaks to our lizard brain. The part of our psyche that is only a vague subconscious awareness. The part of our minds that we have not much control over. You might like to watch it or read about it, bbut you will probably never go out and act on it. If you’re a relatively well adjusted person that is. Can’t speak for the unhinged among us.

Rape has nothing to do with sex, and everything to do with power, hate, rage – violent tendencies already inherent in the human perpetrating the act. If somebody breaks into a house. He does not look at the woman in the house and think “Ah, a delicious piece of ass. I’ve gotta get me some of that” No. He looks at her and thinks “I hate you bitch! Look what you have, and I don’t. I’m going to take everything away from you, and leave you with nothing, just like me”

Some of the questions asked in the comment sections – will you let your daughter star in a porn flick? Can’t say it will fulfill a dream of mine to see my kids in a porn flick. In fact, I can’t imagine anything worse than that for my kids. I don’t think the people doing those films really have all that much choice in the matter, but still. There’s always Burger King – you don’t really have to be shagged on film to try and make a living. Some porn stars though – they’ve become icons in their own right. Stars if you will, recognisable people.

Face it. Sex sells. They use it to sell everything from car spares to meds. We all know it. We all buy into the notion that the busty babe standing next to the gud filters must have something to do with how good the product is – yeah right!! You buy Gud filters because they’re the best – I don’t care how busty the babe is standing next to it on the ad. But a bloke, he might rather buy Gud filters because of the busty babe. Because he’s buying into the fantasy. And that’s not as much wrong as it is silly.

To each his own though.

Speaking for myself, I don’t need porn to be turned on. Well, not visual porn in any case. My method has always been the written word. and that’s why I hated Fifty shades of Grey that much – it did absolutely nothing for my libido, and what use is an erotic book if it does not get your libido working? Watching porn can be a muchly boring endeavour. I mean. You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. Shapes and sizes and positions and colouring – it’s all just variations on a theme.

Morally it’s not quite cool. And people do get addicted to watching it. They can’t function without it. Will in actual fact let life go in favour of just watching porn all the time – also not good.

Not porn’s fault though – if your psyche is strong enough, if your moral compass is tuned in to true north instead of due south, you probably won’t have this problem.

And that, as with everything else, is the crux of the matter. You have a gun. Does not mean you’re going around shooting people. If you do, there’s something wrong. You have access to porn. Does not mean you have to park off in front of it the whole day. Does not mean that it must become your whole life. If it does, it’s probably because you have something lacking in your life.

Porn has ever been a touchy subject. Not mentioned in polite society. Then again. Society is becoming a lot less polite, not so?

I leave you with two Blue songs – hope you enjoy them both πŸ˜‰

  1. If only porn was the cause we can save all problems by internationally ban it. However, it is not that simple. Violence against women and children, including pedophilia, is nothing other than mismatched brain cells and a lust for power over those you see as weak.

  2. Oy my hat, Ghia.. what topics are flying around today! Porn, teen pregnancy, abortion, pro-choice vs pro-life…

I think the important thing is that we need to admit that our society has a problem. The problem is not a consenting adult or more creating, viewing or “using” soft porn. The problem is, porn in the hands of adolescent (and sadly, pre-adolescent) kids. And the other half of the problem is child porn, which is nothing short of a sick, horrible crime. People watching it literally end up with a polluted mind. If they can actually sleep after that, they have no conscience. (I haven’t watched child porn – reading case studies of raped kiddies in a psychology textbook I had to study, was enough to leave me sleepless for a long time.)

Porn in the hands of young teenagers and (tragically) pre-teens can actually become a rape cause. The boys get aroused, they can’t get it out of their heads, and they want to “try it out” with a girl at school. If the girl says no, that’s not enough for some of them. Many cases happen daily in our public schools. They also happen without porn, I’m sure. But porn definitely facilitates, and gives such boys resources and ideas how-to.

Sometimes, in a primary school, such a rape is not logged as a rape but as “bullying” based on that the perpetrator is a child.

Rape during robbery is a deed of hate. Rape on the school grounds is usually a deed of lust.

    • What I wrote here is my opinion regarding the article I read.
I can not speak for what happens to kids when they see porn at an age when they’re still supposed to play with dolls and mud. I have not done the research and have not had dealings with kids like that either.
I find it worrisome that primary school kids are engaging in sexual acts of any kind. But I hesitate to blame porn for that. In all instances – where one person forces another person to do something against their will, be they adult or child, there are underlying social and mental issues. And this has to be addressed. True, the fact that porn is way too readily available to everybody is a major issue, and obviously helping in making society less polite.
In defense of my opinion though – if your child does not have the latest smart phone and oodles of airtime with which to surf the net, maybe they won’t be looking at things they have no business looking at. Too simplified a solution, I realise. A solution nonetheless. And, as with most things that’s wrong with society on the whole – money.

      • Hey Ghia

As I said, nothing wrong with consenting adults using porn for their own entertainment. And yes, every kid these days has to have the latest Iphone… where they get the money, the mind boggles.

So probably, porn sites ought to have a key that the user can only crack if he’s passed a certain level of math, alternative to which the user needs to produce ID or something, to prove he’s old enough. It’s a conundrum. How to solve this technologically? I know it can be solved! πŸ™‚

  3. I agree that porn would only be a contributor to the problem if it is the type that shows and ‘glorifies’ rape. Anyway, what is porn? In the extreme (and frightfully hypocritical) Victorian era, porn was seeing the legs of a piano not decently covered. Thus, it is actually seeing what society has conditioned one to regard as indecent and therefore arousing. It thus has much the same sort of attraction as swearing. The arousal of the latter is supposed to be of a feeling of shock.

    • Quite right Col.
And, since society has become a lot less polite these days, I suppose it stands to reason that their entertainments would follow suit.

  4. I think there’s to much influence on TV sometimes even in coronation street there’s
always somebody going with somebody they shouldn’t ?
    Let’s have a happy ending ?
I think some crimes especially against children should be dealt with different
We most certainly must protect and remove them,Not put them back in built up areas and in the towns where good people live
I say put them in the middle of secluded area so there’s no risk anymore
    Anyway that’s my thoughts.
Have a wonderful day as wonderful as you are to us all

    • I’ve always thought putting criminals on an island away from the general population, let them fend for themselves – might make people think twice before they do stupid things!!
      Thanks for the wishes Daniel!!
And much the same to you too πŸ˜‰

  5. A totally brilliant post. All so true. I might post about writing sex scenes in novels. If one’s not emotionally engaged with the characters, then it’s no different from writing or reading about some kind of physical workout.

    • Personally I have a major problem writing a sex scene. I’ve read so many of them, but i just can’t get the words to say what I want to convey, so I refrain from doing it πŸ˜‰
As for the bodily function – all these randoms that’s been sniffing around me since forever – I’ve often told them that I would prefer sex not to become as mechanical as brushing teeth. Since that’s what it becomes if there’s no emotions involved. And for me, just no fun at all!
