The Graduate…

…today is a day of celebration.

My son will receive his degree today.

4 years of hard work. Of doing research, writing reams of paper, studying for exams.

Perseverance in the face of adversity.

Breaking up with a partner of 3 years, dealing with his mom’s crumbling life, his dad’s apathy regarding his chosen lifestyle.

Yet, all the while, working towards something that will make his future bright.

Today is the culmination for all the effort he has put in.

The recognition of a job well done.

Probably the last time he will receive any recognition for anything he’s done in a currencyย other thanย money.

The whole family will be there en masse to share his special day with him.

Today I will see my eldest walk up to the stage in his toga and little hat, and I will be the proudest mom I am able to be.

Congratulations my boy.

Your hard work has paid off.

Know that you are loved, no matter what.
